Contact plates are sterile plastic dish, usually filled with agar and commonly used in research and analysis laboratory.
Contact plates are filled with liquid agar and a mix of nutrients to provide a suitable environment for the microorganisms which are inoculated in the dish. The surface of the contact place is then streaked with an inoculating loop which has been previously dipped into a microorganism culture. Microorganisms colonies start to grow on the contact plate surface. Colonies may subsequently be removed from the contact plates for further analysis and procedures, using a sterile inoculating loop. The concentration of microorganisms or bacteria on the contact plates can be evaluated using a colony counter.
International PBI online catalogue offers a vast range of instruments and devices for microbiological analysis, such as Agar Contact and Maxi Contact plates. Agar Contact contact plates are sterile and made in polystirene, they have a 24 square cm surface and a 55 mm diameter; they are provided with a graduated bottom with marked letters and numerals. These contact plates are filled with medium and ready to be used for both microbiological air and surface control. The plates with neutralising disinfectant are suggested for surface control. Maxi Contact contact plates are empty and sterile contact plates. They are made in polystirene and designed to be filled with agar medium (agar); they are provided with a graduated bottom with marked letters and numerals. Maxi Contact contact plates have a 84 mm diameter and a 55 square cm surface: these contact plates have a larger surface (more than double than ordinary contact plates) to facilitate the air microbiological control of high contaminated environments and the count of the large colonies of fungi. As a matter of fact, larger surfaces allow a better contamination monitoring of fingers and gloves.
Accessing the online catalogue, you can find all the technical and commercial information about Agar Contact and Maxi Contact plates, as well as other ranges of contact plates and Petri-dishes for any pourpose.
